20 years of Sahaja Yoga in Russia

Russia is by far the biggest country in the world, it occupies a ninth of the entire land on the planet Earth, it has a population of 140 million people and the largest collective of Sahaja Yogis in the world  outside India, some 15,000 active and dedicated yogis who are found from St. Petersburgh in the west to Vladivostock in the east. (Compare these number with the United States of America, a population of 380 million and a Sahaja Yoga collective of 1200, the vast majority of whom were born in other countries.

I remember once traveling to a camp in the Altai mountains, in southern Siberia, on the border with Mongolia and China. Some had traveled two weeks by road to reach this place, and there were probably 1000 in attendance. I will never forget the generosity and kindness shown to me. One old lady, in particular, came up to me and said in Russian, a beaming smile on her face “I have always wanted to meet a brother from the West, and I made this as a present for the first person I’d meet, and that person is you. So please have this with all my love”. She gave me a parcel and in it was a stunning silk kurta pyjama suit, hand embroidered in a most beautiful fashion, with a long flowing cloak that reached to my ankles. I’ll post photos of both in the next few days. To my further astonishment, it fitted perfectly.

It is an extraordinary experience to be showered with gifts from those with practically nothing themselves yet who bestow gifts on others as though they were materially rich. How much is a gift worth from someone who has almost nothing to give? Such love is a living example of the state we all aspire to as Sahaja Yogis and what an example to the rest of us who are not yet? Imagine if we lived in a world where the main thrust was people giving gifts to others, to those they don’t yet know and whom they’ve only just met. What sort of world would that be?

Please download the report and see for yourself the extraordinary work of an extraordinary people:
