Played a gig last night with the Turkish trumpeter Mustapha Fix but we were savaged in today’s paper by the Indian jazz critic Pandit Mercilessly.
PS First heard this one from the sad, miserable and often horrible, Ronnie Scott, owner of the best jazz club in London over many decades. I’ve been in his club when he’d ask, “Are there any Germans here tonight?” And if there were, he’d savage them, poor guys, they didn’t personally give rise to Fascism, any more than Ronnie was personally responsible for the Indian massacre or the destuction of Delhi after the Indian Mutiny.
