P.T. Barnum is alive and well – Hogwash, poppycock, nonsense – the Advertising business 2009

You are who you are, who else might you be?

You are who you are, who else might you be?

These were seen on a sunny Manhattan afternoon, today, 07.08.09 – they prove the Pt Barnum sayings, “There’s a sucker born every minute” or “Never give a sucker an even break” There’s one I can’t get to read on this blog from Jameson’s Irish whiskey. It has the effrontery to suggest that drinking whiskey makes you sexily attractive to the opposite sex. Ever been attracted to a drunk hunk?

As for Heineken, God help us, “You are who you are when no one is looking”. Really? And who else would you be? And who might you be when someone is looking apart from yourself? What’s worse, what about the ‘Give Yourself a Good Name” part – as what? Take a trip to the ER in your local hospital on a Friday or Saturday night and check out how many are there because of domestic violence fueled by alcohol, or from traffic accidents where one of the drivers is inebriated. Some 40% of all traffic accidents in New York involve a driver who is drunk.

So, if you want a good name as a wife beater or worse, and there’s not much worse, drink up. Otherwise, keep your money in your pocket and do something useful with it.

You too can rick your back

You too can rick your back

Where to begin. If you’ve looked up the precepts of Patanjali, which are on this blog, you’ll see right at the beginning that he says that an essential of yoga is the cessation of thought. What has this nonsense got to do with the cessation of thought? Any one with a modicum of common sense will know that yoga requires balance. Power yoga, is a contradiction in terms, a bit like saying, “He’s a very tall dwarf”.

If you want to know what real yoga is all about, first of all it’s free, the brigade who advertise this sort of lunacy are about getting your bucks not about giving you enlightenment or even peace of mind. What has twisted your arm up your back got to do with enlightenment, alleviation of stress, or anything else someone seeking a spiritual dimension to their lives would be looking for?

And what has all this got to do with attention? Quite a lot as it happens. I’ll be posting on this in the next couple of days.

Take a look at: http://freemeditation.tv/ to find out more about real yoga, the connecting of your divine energy to the divine.

Indeed! The people on the power “yoga” pic also look like
they might also end up in the ER…with a dislocated elbow.
