Kabir the Weaver
Kabir the Weaver

The British Trade Union leader Hugh Scanlon once defined an intellectual as someone educated beyond their intelligence.

PS Ruthvick and Deepa say that this is an image of Guru Nanak not Kabir. Google Images is just wrong on this point. Anyway, hope this new image is more accurate and thanks for the help.

PPS Deepa says, Hugh Scanlon’s interpretation is also very good of what Kabir has said.  Kabir and other saints like Baba Bullehshah, Baba Farid used to ridicule the ridiculous in us humans. They did not spare the priests of the prevalent religions because it is from these so called religious priests that all these silly superstitious ideas came. For example, Bullehshah  said ” If  wearing black clothes is considered inauspicious then the first thing should be to shave the black hair off the head”

This is Guru Nanak. He always had his musician along side him when he sang couplets. Kabir was a Muslim and he is depicted with a Muslim headgear. His works are mentioned in the Guru Granth Sahib which has couplets of all saints of that time. I have always seen pics of Kabir as on this link http://www.searchgurbani.com/bhagats/images/s_kabir.gif.
Cant post a photo here so hence the link.

Just want to comment on the Bulleh Shah saying because I’m a big sufi fan. The saying reminds me of another one which goes something like…”You read hundreds and hundreds of books, but have you ever read what’s inside you?”
There’s a video of sufi singer Abida Parveen singing Bulleh Shah with english translation. See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IH8BgubvXWM
