A good man and a bad man say the same good thing – what’s the difference, if any?

If a man who is deeply flawed to the point of being evil says something good, and another man, who is genuinely and deeply a good man, says the same thing, are both things the same? And is the ability to distinguish the two as different, discretion or discrimination? By the way, everyone I’ve asked around me says the two things are the same, since the words are the same and the impact of hearing the words is the same. I am in a minority of one, a not unusual situation for me to be in, but it seems to me that their is a karmic difference, which is the best way at present I can articulate it.
